Respect of the standards

What are the standards of the web?

The websites exist thanks to the programming languages. These languages are based on standards (each job is based on techniques, and each technique is based on rules ...).
For the web, it is the World Wide Web Consortium which takes care of it. The W3C is an international organization that enables people to build processes and policies that promote the development of high-quality consensus standards around open formats that ensure better interoperability (ie better understanding heterogeneous systems through standardized data and languages).

The consortium fulfilled its task since 1994 and is led by one of the major creators of the Web: Tim Berners-Lee (he actually received the Turing Award for the invention of the first browser and protocols for scaling up internet).

It consists of a fixed team and members (including several hundred partner companies). Members delegate engineers to the W3C and participate in the development of technical specifications for web technologies. Many active members are part of the browser development teams (Microsoft, Mozilla, Apple, Opera, Google, etc.).

Why follow W3C standards / recommendations?

Complying with the rules of the W3C brings many advantages:

- Ensure the durability of your website by allowing it to use the latest technologies.
- In some cases, make loading fast by lightening the code.
- Provide your website compatibility with all systems, all browsers, all devices.
- Semantize HTML, meaning make sense of the code so that search engines index your content more easily - Support development that prioritizes accessibility.
